I feel good about making a garden for the disabled kids.  I was very devoted to my work and tried to stay focused.  I had to have patience, accuracy and strength.

On the days I was mad, or didn’t feel like working, I still did work, or even took it out on the saw.  My teacher/advisor/worker would always be there to cheer me up and I thank her for doing so.  I learned what was ¾ on a ruler.  I learned that if you didn’t try and cut like you care about the work, that you end up with the wood being uneven or something being wrong with the work because the cut was wrong.

It felt great to build for disabled kids because it feels good when they have smiles on their faces and you had a part in causing that smile.  It leaves an impact on your heart.  Plus, at the end of the day, you can say to yourself, “Wow, my classmates/teammates and I did this.”

My experience working and building for disabled kids was great.  I enjoyed building benches and little chairs for the kids.  Also, when the little kids came to help out, I felt like I was doing it for a good cause and they really need it.

My favorite part of Urban Workshop is sawing, because I love to cut things in half.

My favorite part of Urban Workshop was making a crate because I always wanted to build one, and I finally did.

Urban Workshop has helped me because it has made me realize I do have adults (teachers) who care about me, which makes me do better in school.  Also, the work requires knowledge and strength.

My favorite tools: A saw is a metal thing a wooden handle that is very sharp.  Clamps are a thing that hold things together.  Hammers are very hard and heavy and metal.  A chisel is like a thing that they used back in the old days.

Urban Workshop helped me keep my grades up and it helped me with math and how to do some things like building.  When I come here, my mind changes to like work.

Today I made a handle for a chisel.  I used a piece of wood, a saw, another chisel and a drill bit.  I cut the piece of wood smaller to fit the chisel.  I drilled a hole in the top of the wood and twisted the chisel in.  Then I chiseled around the chisel with another chisel just to make it look better.

Without the hammer, I can’t nail a nail.  Without the screwdriver, I can’t take apart the clock.  Without the saw, I can’t cut the wood.  Thank you to the people who invented these materials.  Without them, what would life be like for the builder?  The hammer is my best friend because with it I can put in and take out nails.

My favorite tools –
Saw: a long, rectangular shaped knife-like object with metal jagged teeth.
Drill brace: a device used as a handle for drill bits.
Speed Square: a 90º angle used to make straight lines.
Clamp: A device used to hold two or more objects together.
Bit: a piece used to do many different things like drill, screw, countersink, etc.
Chisel: used to engrave or shape something.

My favorite tools:
Lead anchors – to keep screws in the wall
Hex wrench set – to tighten hex-head screws and bolts
Chisel – to clear the wood and make it smooth
Nut – to keep the bolt in tight
Vise grip – to clamp things, to tighten bolts and nuts, and to keep things in place so they don’t fall.

My favorite tools:
plane – smooths a piece of wood
auger bit – used to make a hole bigger and with a bolt and washer makes it be really solid/stiff.
file – smooth out edges of a piece of wood
cat’s paw – used to take out stuck pieces of wood and nails that are sticking out.
chisel - used for slicing uneven parts of wood.

I like this program – actually I love this program – because if you are stressed out you can take it out on your work.
