The West 124th Street Community Garden needed picnic tables, benches, a tool shed, and a shelter structure with a rainwater-harvesting system. Students built the furniture using reclaimed wood. Instead of using wooden rafters to support the roof of the shelter, they assembled a metal frame built using pieces of a discarded Broadway show set, and then secured the wooden stringers to the metal frame using traditional Japanese lashing techniques. w. 124 st. garden home projects the program about us donate click here for more photos
